Every child deserves a smile

Every three minutes, a child is born with a cleft lip or palate somewhere in the world. For many families, this means a future filled with challenges – from health risks and malnutrition to social isolation. At Osstell, we believe every child deserves a chance to smile with confidence. That’s why we are proud to once again support Operation Smile, an organisation that transforms lives through free, safe surgeries and comprehensive care.

Kenny’s story – a brighter future

When Kenny was born in Rwanda with a cleft lip and palate, his parents faced stigma and despair. Neighbours mocked his mother, and she felt forced to hide her newborn to avoid hurtful comments.

Everything changed when Kenny’s family learned about Operation Smile. At just four months old, Kenny travelled to Kigali for a free surgery. The operation went well, and his mother was overjoyed to hold her son after the procedure.

One year later, Kenny is thriving. He runs around his family’s home, and his father dreams of him studying technology. Kenny’s story shows how a single operation can transform a life forever.

Beyond surgery – a holistic approach

Operation Smile does more than provide surgery. Their mission includes:

• Nutrition programmes to help undernourished children survive and prepare for surgery
• Psychosocial support to build confidence and resilience
• Dental care and speech therapy to ensure long-term health and communication
• Training local surgeons to create sustainable healthcare systems

In many countries, these efforts have already doubled the number of trained surgeons, creating lasting impact.

Why it matters

Two out of three people worldwide lack access to safe surgery. Operation Smile works in over 30 countries to close this gap. A single surgery often takes less than an hour and costs as little as €200 – but its impact lasts a lifetime.
