As Osstell celebrates its 25th anniversary, it’s impossible not to mention Viktoria Mårtensson, one of the most influential figures in the company’s history. Viktoria joined Osstell in October 2001 and has been an integral part of the company’s journey and growth ever since.
A strong background in the dental industry
Viktoria came to Osstell with a solid background from Nobel Biocare, where she worked for 12 years. During her first six years there, she focused on clinical trials by collecting and analysing data. Viktoria’s work contributed to building one of the most comprehensive databases in the field, providing valuable insights into the long-term survival and success rates of implants. Her experience with clinical trials fits perfectly with the development of our own software, OsstellConnect, which aims to guide and recommend various clinical decisions for optimal outcomes based on the information built up in the system by other clinics. Today, this is, of course, all handled digitally, but her experience in previously building a similar database is invaluable.
After her time with clinical trials, Viktoria transitioned into a role in sales and marketing, further deepening her understanding of implant healing and long-term survival. This experience proved crucial when she later joined Osstell.
A journey with Osstell
When Viktoria started at Osstell, the company was still in its early startup phase. Her first task was to manage accounts receivable, a critical role for a company investing heavily in product development. Her experience and determination were vital in ensuring the company had the necessary financial stability to grow.
Viktoria soon took on additional responsibilities in sales support and marketing. She helped develop strategies for how Osstell would reach the market and was part of building a network of Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) who could spread the company’s message and technology. Among the first KOLs were prominent figures such as Professor Peter Moy, Professor Lars Sennerby, and later, Professor Daniel Buser. These collaborations were crucial in establishing Osstell as a leading player in implant stability.
Viktoria’s role in Osstell’s development
One of the most significant contributions Viktoria and her close colleagues have made to Osstell is their ability to listen to the market and adapt the company’s strategy accordingly. For many years, they travelled the world, combining roles in sales, marketing, and product development to understand the market’s needs and identify problems that could be solved with Osstell’s technology. Their efforts have been important in developing and fine-tuning the company’s products and services.
Today, Viktoria is responsible for training W&H subsidiaries and distributors on the benefits of Osstell’s measurement technology and OsstellConnect, the company’s software. Her goal is to ensure these partners not only understand the technical aspects of the products but can also communicate their practical value to end customers. She also works to motivate them to build local KOL networks to further spread knowledge and increase demand.
A look to the future
Viktoria’s greatest wish is to personally help spread knowledge about Osstell’s measurement technology and OsstellConnect at various training sessions and courses where all distributors are gathered. This is part of the company’s strategy to ensure a high level of knowledge among resellers, which in turn will contribute to continued growth and success. A key step in this strategy includes events like the upcoming EAO exhibition, where Viktoria will be present to share insights and connect with the dental community. Moreover, she has worked to build up Osstell’s OEM sales together with W&H, which means the company’s technology is now also used by several implant companies. OEM, or Original Equipment Manufacturer, means that Osstell manufactures products that are then sold under other brands. This is an important step in spreading Osstell’s innovative solutions to an even broader market.
