Early loading protocols in implant patients – How to use the ISQ values in daily practice
Prof. Daniel Buser
Buser

Prof. Buser presented his experience of Osstell, accumulated over nine years. He began his presentation with an overview of the university’s general strategies for implant therapy. The focus then moved to the two main areas where the university uses Osstell – early loading in standard posterior implant sites and in cases of sinus floor elevation. According to Prof. Buser, patient management is much easier with Osstell. Normally, simply add healing time until the ISQ value is good enough to proceed. The actual value depends on the clinical situation, but "for daily practice" Prof. Buser targets an ISQ value of 70 for early loading protocol with routine patients.

The ISQ: What do the numbers mean?  A review of 500 cases utilizing Osstell ISQ readings
Dr. Jay Malmquist

Malmquist
Dr. Malmquist presented how to use the Osstell ISQ in practice. He described which ISQ values can be expected in different situations, and how failing implants behave in terms of ISQ assessment. Dr. Malmquist also presented the ISQ data for 200 Biohorizons and Biomet/3i implants, highlighting the development in ISQ value from insertion to second stage. He also advised on the benefits of using Osstell and ISQ values when in communication with referral doctors.

The use of Osstell for everyday clinical decision making with dental implants

Dr. Paul Rosen

Rosen2

Dr. Rosen spoke about how Osstell can be used for everyday clinical decisions concerning dental implants. He provided the audience with some good examples of the importance of re-measuring – that is, taking a new ISQ reading after the initial procedure – before final restoration to avoid unnecessary failures and costs. Dr. Rosen also stressed a few typical cases where he uses ISQ, such as immediate placement, patients with type 1 diabetes, and patients for whom a prior implant failed.

Implant dentistry in the daily practice with focus on immediate loading

Pär-Olov Östman

Ostman
Dr. Östman presented extensive ISQ data for a number of implants. He summarized the ISQ values from different clinical situations, such as full arch, partial, and single cases. He also exemplified his findings with patient cases and the relevant ISQ data. Dr. Östman then provided practical advice on how to use ISQ values, such as the preferred lower limits for ISQ values in various situations.
